Review on guardian.co.uk

Great news for fans of A Neutron Walks Into A Bar! We're been reviewed on the Guardian site by the wonderful science blogger, Dean Burnett.

A science book written in an interesting way... The whole book is full of short fun snippets in this style. If there was any justice, they would be found in Christmas crackers or fortune cookies, not terrible mummified jokes or half-arsed predictions.

#Neutron Reviewed

It's been a whirlwind month! We've been on national radio and featured in a number of newspapers and websites.  We've also made it onto the Gutter Bookshop Christmas Picks 2012 where we're one of the picks of the best non-fiction!

Today, we'd like to highlight a number of people who have blogged about A Neutron Walks Into A Bar:

Mark Lorch wrote:
The result is a wonderful book (and I'm proud to have contributed to it) from which anyone and everyone can learn a thing or 2 (thousand).

If I didn't have a copy already I'd defiantly be asking for one in my stocking.

So you thought twitter was cool?! Did you know ‘it’ wrote a book? I don’t mean the founders of twitter, but the tweeple – who share their stories in no more than 140 characters on a daily basis... So my twitter friends and I wrote a book! And it’s fun. And it’s about science!

Not only does it aid charity, but it’s the kind of entertaining book you can pick up and flick through anytime. You’re sure to find out something new every time you open it. What started off as a unique social media project has turned into the ideal Christmas stocking filler.

Science 140 @ Spot On London

One of Team Science140, Maria Delaney, brought A Neutron Walks Into A Bar and the concept of Science 140 to London last weekend.

She hosted a workshop along with Catherine McGuinness (Natural History Museum) and Ian Bruswick (Science Gallery) at this year's Spot On London conference.

The workshop explored how to use Twitter as an effective means of science engagement and each of the presenters brought a different experience to the table. You can watch it back here.

They also made the workshop interactive by setting up a number of Twitter accounts for people to test out during the session including David Cattenborough, Brian Cox's Dog and Vanguard1. The Storify of this session is quite funny as a result!

Prior to the conference, Maria also wrote a case study about Science 140 which was published on the Spot On website (hosted by nature.com).

A Neutron Walks Into A Bar

It's been almost a month since the Science 140 project finished collating tweets so we think it's time for an update.

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who contributed to #Science140. The final tally was staggering with thousands of tweets (over 60,000 words worth!) written by hundreds of contributors. The team spent many hours intensely reading tweet after tweet trying to pick the best for the book. This was a difficult job considering the high quality of the submissions we received. Everyone certainly rose to the challenge of condensing complicated topics into bite-size science!

We are delighted to announce that we have secured a book deal and our first draft is now submitted. Inspired by #Science140 tweets, the title of the book is A Neutron Walks Into A Bar. All proceeds of the book are going to research into cystic fibrosis through our partners in the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.

A Neutron Walks Into A Bar will be published this October. We'll be keeping you up-to-date with news via this website and @Science140.

Thank you so much for making this project a success!
